BAPD shares tips to prevent mail and package theft

During this holiday season, the Broken Arrow Police Department would like to remind everyone to remain vigilant with specific regard to your mail and packages.

If at all possible, try not to leave packages on your porch for extended periods of time. We understand this time of year is busy and we tend to let package arrivals slip our minds. One way to remind yourself of an incoming package is to set an electronic delivery confirmation notification.

Mail and package tips:

  • check and empty your mailbox daily.
  • if you must send mail, utilize your local post office.
  • do not send money or other sensitive documents/information via your personal mailbox.
  • if applicable, track your shipments online.
  • if possible, have someone ready to receive your items.
  • have a designated area, away from street view, for your mail carrier to leave items if you are unable to receive them.
  • if you notice anything suspicious or suspect mail tampering, please report to police and/or your local postmaster.
