Since August 2018, the Broken Arrow Fire Department offers monthly CPR training classes free for members of the community.

The one-hour classes train citizens in Hands-Only CPR, choking assistance and familiarize them with automated external defibrillators (AEDs) as part of the American Heart Association’s Friends and Family CPR course. This course is intended for people who want to learn CPR but do not need a CPR course completion card to meet a job requirement. (Learn more about AHA's Friends and Family CPR course.)

Upcoming classes are listed on the registration link below. Each class is limited to 20 people and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. At this time, classes are limited to ages 10 and older.

Classes will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the Broken Arrow Police and Fire Training Center, 4205 E Omaha St. in northeast Broken Arrow.

BAFD began these classes for community groups, families, babysitters and anyone else interested in learning how to save a life. With the launch of the PulsePoint app in October 2017, the Broken Arrow Fire Department has been encouraging everyone to learn CPR so we can have citizen life savers available whenever they’re needed.

On October 25, 2017, Broken Arrow Fire Department became the first emergency medical service in the state of Oklahoma to use PulsePoint, a mobile app that alerts citizens trained in hands-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) when someone in a nearby public place suffers sudden cardiac arrest. When the City’s emergency dispatchers receive a sudden cardiac arrest call, an alert is sent through the app at the same time as emergency responders are dispatched. The app also notifies users of any nearby automated external defibrillators (AED). Special thanks go to Saint Francis Hospital South for providing the funding needed to bring PulsePoint to Broken Arrow.

Anyone who is trained in CPR is encouraged to download the PulsePoint app free through the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store. Once the app is installed, select the Broken Arrow Fire Department from the agency listings to receive alerts. Users may follow more than one agency.
