Debra Wimpee is a public servant and business owner who holds the position of Mayor of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She is currently serving her second term and is the second female Mayor in her city’s history, 90 years after the first. 

 As a community leader, Debra has earned much recognition, including receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award for her time in the commercial real estate industry, was nominated as Woman of the Year by Journal Record in 2023 as well as the Beacon Award for philanthropy and volunteerism from the Journal Record. Her most favorite accomplishment was in 2019, she was inducted as a Broken Arrow High School “Great Graduate.” The program recognizes those who have brought honor to their community and to their Alma Mater through their personal and professional accomplishments. Runner up would be being selected as 1 of 12 female mayors in the U.S. to be invited to Switzerland by the Swiss Embassy for a week-long trip.

Debra serves on approx 18 boards/committees and volunteer positions in her community. Her engagements range from supporting boy scouts, veterans, aspiring leaders, and women in municipal government to the Salvation Army. She is the Vice President of the Mayors Council or Oklahoma and active board member for the Oklahoma Municipal League. She’s launched Mobilizing Municipalities to create awareness for veteran resources in communities and created the Broken Arrow Mayor’s Council of Veteran Affairs. Debra promotes Broken Arrow businesses by organizing community events. These events are promoted through BA Buzz, a positive news and information platform of which Wimpee is the owner and creator that hit a million views last year! 

Due to her passion to serve those who serve…She recently resigned after 16 years as the Director for NAIOP, a commercial real estate organization, to become the Executive Director of Soldier’s Wish, a veteran organization that meets unmet needs of veterans, active military, and their families.

Debra and her husband, Glenne, graduated from Broken Arrow High School together in 1990 and have been married for 22 years, they have three children who all also are BA alumni and two grand darlins- one of which is a 5th grader at BA!  Her family bleeds black and gold!
