The City of Broken Arrow's Utilities Department plays a critical role in managing wastewater conveyance and treatment, ensuring the health and safety of our community. The department maintains an extensive system that processes millions of gallons of wastewater each day.

Broken Arrow's wastewater treatment journey has evolved significantly over the years:

  • 1960: Westside Sewer Disposal Plant became operational.
  • 1970: Lynn Lane Wastewater Treatment Plant opened with a capacity of 1.0 MGD (million gallons per day).
  • 1976: Haikey Creek Lift Station and Force Main to the new wastewater treatment plant began operations.
  • 1985 - 1999: Expansion projects increased the capacity of both the Lynn Lane and Haikey Creek Wastewater Treatment Plants to meet the growing needs of the city.
  • 2018: Completion of the Wastewater System Master Plan by HDR.

Wastewater Treatment Facilities

Our city is served by two major wastewater treatment plants:

  • Haikey Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant: Located south of 151st St between Garnett Rd and Olive Ave, this plant handles a significant portion of our wastewater treatment needs.
  • Lynn Lane Water Reclamation Facility: Located south of Jasper on 9th St, this facility plays a vital role in the reclamation process.

Lynn Lane Water Reclamation Plant Process

The Lynn Lane facility employs a multi-step process to ensure the highest water quality:

  • Aeration Basins: Two basins with a combined capacity of 8.0 MGD and a peak capacity of 18.0 MGD. Bacteria are grown to a certain level to remove chemical elements and organics from the water.
  • UV Disinfection: The UV disinfection process is a safe, chemical-free alternative to chlorine treatment, ensuring no harmful by-products are released into the environment.

Wastewater Collection System

The city's collection system spans 63 square miles and includes:

  • 695 miles of gravity sewer lines
  • 25 miles of force main
  • 16,220 manholes
  • 30 lift stations

Water Reclamation Operations

The city employs 16 staff members dedicated to the maintenance and operation of our wastewater system, including:

  • 700 miles of sewer lines
  • 17,600 sewer manholes
  • 30 lift stations
  • 3 water booster pump stations

Specialized Equipment

We utilize cutting-edge technology to ensure the efficiency of our operations:

  • CCTV Inspections: Our CCTV van inspects pipelines to identify defects, potential failures, and rehabilitation needs.
  • Vactor Truck: This jet vac combination unit uses high-pressure water and powerful vacuums to clean pipes, sewers, and lift stations, also assisting with hydro-excavation of utility lines.
