Albany Street widening project begins April 10th

April 6, 2023 -

The improvements project that will include widening Albany Street (61st St.) from three lanes to five lanes between Lynn Lane and County Line Road will begin on Monday, April 10.

The project is expected to be completed in 12 months.

As the project begins, the intersection of Albany St. and County Line Rd. will be restricted to straight through driving and right turns only. Left turns will not be allowed while the contractor’s crew makes improvements to the intersection. The contractor’s goal is to complete the intersection improvements during the summer prior to school resuming in August.

In addition to the street being widened and the intersection being improved, these are the other enhancements:

  • New sidewalks on both sides of Albany Street
  • New traffic signal at 12th Street in front of Creekwood Early Childhood Center
  • New curbs and gutters with enclosed storm sewer system

Drivers will have access to enter and exit school property off Albany Street during the construction phase.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) is managing the project, and the $9 million contract is between the state and the contractor, Becco Contractors, Inc. The City of Broken Arrow is responsible for $5.19 million of the total cost. The remaining $3.75 million will be paid for with federal funds secured by the city’s Engineering and Construction staff.

Looking ahead, Broken Arrow High School announced in December that the graduation ceremony for the Class of 2023 was being moved to the BOK Center in downtown Tulsa because of the Albany Street Improvements project and the construction of the school district’s new Event Center just south of the stadium.
