Home MenuAbout BAFD/EMS
In 1973, the Broken Arrow Fire Department (BAFD) adopted the emergency medical services program for the citizens of Broken Arrow. Since that time, thousands of lives have been saved by the dedication and compassion the Broken Arrow firefighters have for their community.
In 1999, BAFD became the first fire department in the state of Oklahoma to offer advanced life support (ALS) treatment to the sick and injured. With this advancement, a firefighter/paramedic will respond to every emergency medical call 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Since 2018, the city has had seven ALS first response ambulances, supplied with the latest and most technologically advanced equipment, ready for response. In 2022, the department responded to more than 16,000 calls with 77 percent being requests for medical services.
More than half of the BAFD members are certified paramedics, affirming that the BAFD is committed to the safety and lifesaving treatments for our community. Combining this treatment with a rapid 3-4 minute response time, the citizens we serve will receive the most efficient and progressive pre-hospital medical treatment in the state.
The Broken Arrow Fire Department manages one of the few municipally-operated EMS in Oklahoma and serves more than 116,000 people in a 105 square mile area.
