“It shall be the mission of the Broken Arrow Animal Shelter to protect and serve all citizens and animals of our community through diligent and compassionate enforcement of the ordinances of the City of Broken Arrow, statutes of the State of Oklahoma and the policies and procedures of the Broken Arrow Police Department. We will strive to provide the most ethical and humane services possible and will always be guided by the values of the Police Department and Broken Arrow City Council which are service to community, integrity, accountability, pride and professionalism.”
Location & Hours
The Broken Arrow Animal Shelter is located at 4121 E. Omaha in Broken Arrow – approximately 1 and ¼ mile east of County Line Road (193rd E. Ave.) on Omaha (51st Street).
The Shelter is open to the public six days a week, Monday through Saturday, and is closed on Sundays and City holidays. Animal adoptions or animal surrenders can be made during these times. Hours are Monday through Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. and Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The Animal Shelter is operated under the control of the Broken Arrow Police Department. Animal Control and Shelter staff consists of the Animal Control Director, one Administrative Technician and six Animal Control Officers.
Duties
The Animal Control Officers are charged with the responsibility of enforcing local animal ordinances, as well as city and state animal related laws. The officers respond to calls for service related to animals running at large, vicious or dangerous animals, injured animals and animal bites. In addition, the officers are on call for emergencies occurring after hours.
