The Broken Arrow Police Department strives to exceed the minimum standards of educational requirements for their police personnel. The Broken Arrow Police Department prides itself on providing quality education and training for our officers. We believe that our community deserves the very best service that we can offer. The excellent service we provide requires us to stay aware of consistently changing laws and trends in law enforcement.

BAPD Training Division logoRather than send our new officers to the state training facility, the Broken Arrow Police Department instructs its own academy at our training facility. This allows us to expand on the minimum subjects of law enforcement and cater to the uniqueness of Broken Arrow’s culture and procedures. The Broken Arrow Police Academy consists of over one thousand hours of training for our new recruits. This is double the hours of the state academy which is fourteen weeks. The Broken Arrow Police Academy provides a wide range of instruction including legal, patrol tactics, firearms training, defensive tactics, de-escalation, ethics, criminal investigation, traffic, community relations, and many more. Our officers obtain the very newest education available before they ever put on a uniform. After graduation from the police academy our recruits then participate in fourteen weeks of field training. In the field training program they are paired up with an experienced officer and receive “on the job” training. The skills they learn in this phase of training consist of responding to calls for service, driving, officer safety, report writing, problem solving, radio use, and more. Only after completing both the academy and the Field Training Program are new officers allowed to start working on their own.
